CACB’s Mission and Role in International Collaboration
The Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) plays an active role in the global architecture community by advocating for high-quality educational standards in architectural accreditation and academic certification. As the profession of architecture becomes increasingly international in scope, the CACB remains committed to supporting systems that promote academic and professional mobility.
Recognizing the global nature of architectural practice and the rise of mutual and multilateral agreements, the CACB is particularly invested in the mobility of architecture students and graduates. It supports the quality and recognition of professional education both within and beyond Canada.
Canadian students often pursue architectural studies abroad, while international students and graduates seek admission to Canadian architecture programs and registration as architects in Canada. In both directions, the CACB values clear, credible pathways for education and licensure.
Building International Partnerships
To strengthen international collaboration, the CACB actively engages with global partners to develop and maintain rigorous architectural accreditation and validation systems. These systems foster academic exchange and professional mobility in architectural education and practice.
As part of this commitment:
- The CACB has established assessment processes through its Academic Certification and Broadly Experienced Foreign Architect (BEFA) programs. These processes evaluate the academic qualifications and professional experience of internationally educated individuals seeking to practice architecture in Canada.
- In 2008, the CACB became a signatory of the Canberra Accord, a multilateral agreement among architecture accreditation agencies that recognizes the substantial equivalency of their accreditation systems.
The CACB welcomes opportunities to expand collaboration with international partners, institutions, and organizations dedicated to advancing architectural education and professional mobility worldwide.
