About Academic Certification

What is Academic Certification?

Academic certification is the formal process of assessing and recognizing an individual’s architectural education against the Canadian Education Standard (CES). Conducted by the CACB on behalf of the Regulatory Organizations of Architecture in Canada (ROAC), it confirms that a professional degree, diploma, or combination of academic qualifications meets the CACB’s educational requirements for entry into the architectural profession in Canada. This certification is a mandatory step for graduates seeking licensure, as it establishes that their academic background aligns with the competencies and knowledge expected of intern architects.

Why Do You Need Academic Certification?

Candidates must have their academic qualifications certified as having met the educational components of the requirement for entry to the professional as a part of the application process for registration or licensure with any of the Regulatory Organizations of Architecture in Canada.

You will need your academic certification number to register for the Internship in Architecture Program (IAP) in the province or territory where you intend to become a licensed architect.
