Frequently Asked Questions
What Degree Will Appear on My ECA Report If I Have Multiple Degrees?
The degree included in your Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report will be your professional architecture degree.
For example, if you hold a professional bachelor’s degree and have completed a post-professional master’s degree, the bachelor’s degree will be the one reflected on the report.
If you wish to have a higher-level degree, such as a PhD, evaluated, please note that the CACB does not assess degrees beyond the professional architecture qualification. Our evaluation is limited to your professional architect degree only.
What Is an Official Transcript? How Do I Obtain One?
A transcript is a detailed record of the courses a student has completed, including the grades and credits awarded. An official transcript is an authenticated document issues directly by the Office of the Registrar.
What Is a Certified Translator?
A certified translator is a professional translator who has been officially recognized or accredited by a competent authority or professional organization. They are authorized to provide accurate and certified translations of documents, often accompanied by a signed statement attesting to the translation’s accuracy and completeness.
This service may be obtained either in Canada or in the country of origin.

Can I Register for the Internship in Architecture Program (IAP) Using My ECA Number?
No. You cannot use your Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) number to register for the IAP Program. The ECA report is intended solely for immigration purposes and is not valid for professional or academic certification in Canada.
To register in the Internship in Architecture Program (IAP), you must obtain a CACB Academic Certification Number. This requires you to apply through the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) Academic Certification Program, which assesses your academic qualifications for the purposes of architectural licensure in Canada.
Can I Use My ECA Number to Apply for the Academic Certification Program?
Yes. If you hold an ECA number issued by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB), you are eligible to apply for the Academic Certification Program. You will receive a link to apply when your ECA report is issued.
When applying for Academic Certification, you will not be required to resubmit documents that were already provided for your ECA assessment, such as your diploma(s) and official transcript(s). These documents are already on file with the CACB. You will only need to submit the remaining required documents based on your selected mode of certification.
Will the ECA Fee I Paid Be Applied Toward My Academic Certification Application?
Candidates who have received an ECA Report for a degree or diploma not accredited by the CACB (see Mode of Certification to determine if this applies to you) are eligible for a credit toward their Academic Certification application fee. To receive this credit, you must apply for Academic Certification using your existing online account and the same email address used for your ECA application. The payment system will automatically apply the amount previously paid for your ECA application to your Academic Certification application fee.
