IRCC designates CACB as the educational credential assessment (ECA) organization for architects
The Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) is pleased to announce its designation by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as the professional body to issue educational credential assessments (ECAs) for architects interested in immigrating to Canada.
ECAs issued by the CACB will determine how foreign educational credentials compare to Canadian credentials required to practice architecture. ECAs also confirm eligibility for the Academic Certification Program, the first step in the licensing process for architects.
Effective May 20, 2024, the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) started receiving ECA applications for those whose primary occupation is architecture.
ECA applications are received through the online application system developed with the assistance of ALT Technical, after months of hard work and dedication.
CACB-issued ECA holders may consider pursuing the pathway to becoming a licensed architect in Canada through either:
- The Academic Certification Program, the initial step in the licensure process, followed by registration with the Internship in Architecture Program (IAP) and completion of the Examination for Architects in Canada (ExAC); or
- The Broadly Experienced Foreign Architects (BEFA) Program if they are licensed architects in their country and have at least seven years of post-licensure experience.
