CACB SUPPORTS THE ‘UNITED NATIONS DECLARATION ON THE RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’
The CACB Board of Directors is pleased to support of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and acknowledges the RAIC’s recent formal adoption of this Declaration by overwhelming support of its members.
The UN Declaration establishes a universal framework for the survival, dignity and well-being of indigenous peoples and elaborates on existing human rights standards and fundamental freedoms as they apply to the specific situation of indigenous peoples.
By adopting the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, together with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action, the CACB joins in a symbolic and action-oriented journey toward justice and peace for indigenous peoples, architectural communities and future generations.
The CACB looks forward to working with the Canadian Architectural Licensing Authorities (CALA) and the Canadian Council of University Schools of Architecture (CCUSA) to support initiatives and identify appropriate actions to enhance programs and standards for the practice of architecture in Canada.
In further support of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action, CACB honours the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th.
